Like many parents, our colleague Nathalia Wakim, Operations Manager at Kulzer Brazil, faced the challenge of balancing career and childcare. But there were also those special moments and valuable experiences - professional and personal.
Operations Manager at Kulzer Brazil
My highlight from one year of "mobile working":
At the beginning, I was afraid that we would lose agility and efficiency, as most of us - including me - prepare lunch, take care of the children and are teachers besides work. During the first lockdown, we found a way to overcome this challenge. Even though we now cook, teach and babysit in addition, we have learnt to combine it all with work.
When I look to my right at my workplace at home, I see....
my 2-year-old son playing, watching TV or painting. Working from home for over a year has allowed me to be with my son every day, despite the challenges! I was there when he took his first steps and when he spoke his first words. Even though it is not easy, being such an active part of his growth and development without neglecting my professional career has been an incredible and very rewarding experience. Until now, many people thought they had to choose between being good parents or good professionals. This time has shown us a new range of possibilities that we didn't know were possible.
What I miss most about the normal working day:
I really miss my colleagues and interacting with them. Talking to them about our weekends, having lunch together in a nice restaurant or just in the cafeteria of our office; sitting together with my team to learn from each other. I also miss the feeling of "getting ready for work", like getting dressed, putting on some make-up and putting on nice shoes.
